Roger Germann is the President & Chief Executive Officer of The Florida Aquarium in Tampa, FL. He brings a strong history of leadership experience with 30+ years of experience in the private and public sector; Roger is widely recognized as one of the zoological community’s top leaders and strategists. Since joining The Florida Aquarium in June 2017, he has been driving unprecedented growth and actively elevating the organization with several high-profile recognitions.

Under his leadership, the Aquarium has grown operations from $21M to $42M, increased annual attendance to 1M guests, and launched the largest animal/exhibit expansion in the Aquarium’s history. Some of the most recent successes and accolades include being recognized by USA Today as one of North America’s Top Aquariums; opening of a $4M sea turtle rehabilitation center and becoming the first organization to successfully reproduce Atlantic pillar coral in human care; establishing innovative partnerships with Tampa General Hospital, Feeding Tampa Bay, and Junior Achievement; and creating one of the zoological community’s first executive level positions focused on community engagement and social responsibility.

Prior to The Florida Aquarium, Roger earned his strong business and conservation leadership reputation serving as Executive Vice President for more than 16 years at the world-renowned John G. Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. He began his career in television and worked in the public sector for the State of Illinois.

Roger is active in leadership roles on several local and national committees and non-profit boards. He serves on the Association of Zoos and Aquarium’s national Board and is the first leader from the Aquarium to serve in this role. In addition, he serves on the Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce, the Tampa Bay Economic Development Council, the Tampa Research & Medical District Advisory Board, and the Tampa Bay Sports Commission. He has served in several local and national leadership positions, including a White House appointed member of the Great Lakes Advisory Board and a Governor appointed member of the Southwest Florida Water Management District.

Beyond his work at The Florida Aquarium, Roger is heavily involved in the community. He dedicates his time in support of his children’s school, youth sports, and community theater, along with mentoring students from underserved areas.

Roger and his family reside in South Tampa.
