The Florida Aquarium Extends Temporary Public Closure

Today, The Florida Aquarium announced it will extend its temporary closure to the public through Sunday, May 10 to help minimize the effects and spread of COVID-19. The decision to extend its public closure was made voluntary by The Florida Aquarium, in alignment with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendation to limit gatherings of 50 people or more for an eight-week period and out of respect for the health and safety of its staff and volunteers, their families and the greater community.

The Florida Aquarium is planning to reopen on Monday, May 11. However, it remains ready to open earlier if it is determined safe to do so.

What matters most right now is our community’s wellbeing,” said Roger Germann, President and CEO of The Florida Aquarium. “We know just how resilient Tampa Bay is and we are confident that we can and will get through this challenging time together. We look forward to reopening our doors again soon and sharing a journey of discovery with our guests to explore animals and ecosystems from Florida and around the world.”

During this temporary closure period, The Florida Aquarium’s animal care and health team will maintain its high standards in caring for its 7,000 animals and rescuing sick or injured wildlife. Guests are invited to learn more about the Aquarium’s animals during the closure and even help support The Florida Aquarium’s animal welfare efforts by adopting an animal, as well as tuning in to the daily SEA-SPAN educational series on its Facebook page.
