Education Internship

Education Internships

Our education internships offer a well-rounded, educational experience working with our Learning team.

Qualifications:

  • Must be college sophomore or higher with a GPA of 3.0 or higher OR up to six months post graduate
  • Working toward a bachelor’s degree in marine biology, biology, education, environmental science, communication, interpretation or related discipline is preferred
  • Reliable transportation to and from The Florida Aquarium
  • Some familiarity with a living collection of plants and animals in a central Florida or relatable/similar climate is preferred

Time Commitment:

  • Workdays are primarily Monday–Friday from 9 AM–5 PM. Days and hours are flexible.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays and evenings.

Guest Engagement Internship

Position Summary 

During this internship you will expand your knowledge of plants and animals while also developing your interpretation skills by interacting with guests throughout the Aquarium.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Sharing factual content in an informal setting throughout the Aquarium
  • Monitoring touch habitats
  • Engaging in informal discussions with guests on the pathway, offering scheduled, scripted talks
  • Leading activity tables during special events

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time – up to 6 hours per day
  • Must be comfortable speaking to and interacting with groups of various sizes for extended periods of time
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to interact with and be around animals
  • Willingness to work under marked changes in temperature and humidity
  • Teaching and/or public speaking experience preferred

Time Commitment:

  • At least one weekend day for the duration of the internship

Education Animal Care Internship

This position is only available during the summer term.

Position Summary

Our education animal care internship offers a well-rounded experience working with the animal care team in our Learning department.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Cleaning and maintaining the education ambassador animal habitats
  • Feeding the education ambassador animals and diet prep
  • Providing animal interactions with Aquarium visitors on the exhibit pathway and/or during tabling events
  • Record keeping and data entry to an official AZA database

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to work in both a group and individual setting
  • Have a general understanding of and willingness to work with a variety of animal species including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates
  • Willingness to do regular physical labor in a variety of indoor or outdoor environments
  • Proficient computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office software
